Listen & Create

Start with a song.

Think of a song that helps you feel hopeful, strong, understood, or connected. What does it bring to mind? What would you want someone else to hear?

Use it as inspiration to write a few lines, create a rhythm, record a sound, or decorate your lantern with colors, words, and images. You don’t need to be an artist or musician to participate.

EXPLORE THE CREATIVE PROMPT

Make a lantern. Share a little light.

Pick up a lantern kit at a participating location in Katonah and nearby communities, and make it your own.

Each kit includes a paper lantern, decorating instructions, information and QR codes for My Sisters’ Place, Hope’s Door, and Fearless!, and the project schedule.

Bring your finished lantern to our December gathering and add your light to the community.

1. Come Together

Community Workshop

Join us for an afternoon of listening, conversation, and creativity. Hear from our partner organizations, explore a guided lyric-writing activity, and decorate a lantern for our community walk.

There is room to participate in whatever way feels comfortable: listening, writing, making, or simply being together.

2. Light the Night

A community walk through Katonah.

On December 13, we’ll gather with our lanterns and walk through Katonah, with musicians along the avenue bringing sound to an evening of shared light.

Our closing gathering will offer a moment to listen, reflect, and stand together in support of those affected by domestic violence.

Bring your lantern, invite a neighbor, and help us make our support seen and heard.
